The Dressmaker
This children’s book is yet another Cinderella story, I’m afraid, but it is mostly about sewing and not about princes.
It was inspired by my love of fabric, in particular reappropriated and misappropriated fabric, and by my grandmother who sewed clothing for everyone in the family. She always saved every scrap of fabric big enough to be plausibly useful when she cut out a pattern or recycled an old item of clothing. My main character, Dorothena is named after my grandmother, Dorothy.
The artwork is digital, made from linework and scans of fabric (many of which my grandmother owned).
